Bormio 🇮🇹

Blue skies and lots of smiles today in the Italian Alps town of Bormio.  We are less than 10kms from the famous Stelvio pass and thought we might go for a drive but the road is closed due to snow covering.
We walked to see the Bormio Olympic site of Ski Mountaineering and we can actually see the ski runs from where we are staying!  Then for a wander through the old town with many historic buildings. Bormio has made quite an effort to celebrate the Olympics with themed window dressing, flags and bunting everywhere.
This afternoon we hired some crampons and ski poles and asked for a hike recommendation from the hire shop owner.  We drove out of town and up some fabulous switchbacks in the snow (Andy driving) to a ski field.called “Oga”.  We put on our crampon spikey shoe additions and checked the route on the hiking signs.  Off we set for a 4km hike on a well groomed hiking and ski mountaineering trail.  The pine trees were dusted in snow and it was quiet and peaceful hiking up the mountain.  At the 2km mark we had a cheese and crackers picnic before heading back down.
This afternoon we visited Bormio Terme hot springs in town.  So much fun to be immersed in hot springs on the side of a mountain with views of the Olympic ski field and the twinkly lights of town.  We emerged two hours later with wrinkly fingers and big smiles.
Pizza for dinner to complete a brilliant relaxing day
