Day 1: Volunteering Milano Cortina winter Olpics
What an exciting fabulous day! I am part of a small Press team, handling the international photographers at the Sliding centre in Cortina. There are different classes of photographers and social media reporters that we handle, and so rules to learn about who can stand where.
I left my apartment at 6.20am to walk the quiet streets to the bus stop and an hour later I had located the check-in tent. Our supervisor met us and we had a 1 hour run through before heading out into the light snow to the start line for the Skeleton. My role was keeping photographers to their correct section and point out how to get to the various stations. Amazing to see the athleticism up close. I then swapped spots with another team member down alongside the luge bend with the photographers.
The morning flew by and after a break in the comp, headed to the lunch tent for a dished out, huge mountain meal! Back to work the bobsled training sessions for the afternoon. The coaches film their athletes for reflection training.
After shift I walked into Cortina and soaked up the international atmosphere before heading to a fan zone.
I caught the bus back and while walking home saw a stunning sunset.
A truly amazing day! My legs and glutes are feeling it after nearly 20,000 steps of hill walking on shift today!
Very grateful for this opportunity to see events that I could never watch live in Australia.
I'm awaiting the arrival.of Francisca who is renting one of the bunk beds
