Day 5: Milano Cortina winter Olympics volunteering
And so my final volunteering shift day dawned. Another beautiful silent early morning walk to the bus with pink tips to the clouds for sunrise. Today I needed to be packed to check out.
I arrived on shift with my beautiful friendly team. Excitement today for the start of the 2-man bobsled comp. I was stationed at the top of the hill at the start line. This involves walking a very steep hill 😂
Today was by far the coldest day on the job with a cold dry air and spectacular views. We were needing to dance to the music to keep warm 😊
The crowd were very vocal and enthusiastic and we were hard pressed protecting the professional photographers much needed line of sight. Definitely an enthusiastic sport and the strength of the athletes was evident. I spent some time half way along the luge on a bend with a group of photographers and the bobsled whizzed by so quickly.
Back inside the warmth of the Press centre for half an hour which was enough time for our fingers and toes to warm up again. Then I was down at the finish line in the photographers out with a bird's eye view of the emotion on the faces of the athletes.
This has been such a pinch yourself, incredible experience. Having greater insight into some of the Winter Olympic events from an up close and personal viewpoint has been more than I could have imagined.
I'm now on the 6.5hr bus ride back to Milan with Narelle, and the next step of this adventure starts tomorrow 😊
