Venice to San Vito di Cadore ๐ฎ๐น ( Cortina)
I woke after a solid sleep in my comfy hostel bed. A short video call to chat to my darling grandbaby Charles before walking a short distance to my Flixbus stop, arriving half an hour early.
A lot of busses came and went and I could see far down the road other brands of busses also coming and going. My bus did not arrive. I tried to seek assistance from the Polish bus drivers who lived up to my previous experience and proved very unhelpful. I walked and talked to other drivers from other brands of busses and it turns out that I had missed my bus as operated by a different brand๐ฅ๐ฅ
I looked online and the next bus was sold out and the one after arrived just when the uniform and accreditation centre closed, meaning I couldn't collect my uniform and accreditation ready for my 6.30am shift in the morning ๐ฅ. I walked up to the alternate bus stop with a plan to see if there was a no show on the next bus and maybe the driver was a helpful one. Then a local bus company pulled in with Cortina written on the front. I ran over to talk with the driver and he said he had room & the bus left in 10 mins and pointed me to the ticket office. I begged him to wait for me, ran to the office and friendly helpful lady sold me a ticket. I was on the bus 3 mins before departure! What a blessing!
As my bus climbed to the Dolomites, I could see my bicycle path that I had ridden down to Venice in late August. Surreal to be seeing it again and covered in snow ๐
I had the most helpful staff at the uniform centre and I received my accreditation! So exciting.
Then the 1km walk uphill to my gorgeous top floor traditional apartment. The real estate met me for key handover. I then put my uniform on for a snowy photoshoot ๐
I thought I would try out the bus journey tonight as I have an early start.. glad I did as hilariously there is very little signage and confused people everywhere. I have a better idea for the morning. Bonus was a short walk through Cortina to see the Olympic flame and countdown clock at zero ๐
Some grocery shopping and then bus back to my village and the uphill.climb to my place. A simple pasta meal and Olympic watching for the evening.
So, the next step in my volunteer journey - collecting my uniform and accreditation✅. So so exciting!
